Q. I am interested in renting a convention center for a convention this time next year.. I was looking at several convention centers but I have no idea what the costs are and which are the best location wise.. How much does it usually cost to rent out a convention center for the weekend (all hidden prices included) and which do you like the best? Must be in Atlanta.
A. I would think the more important question would be: What convention center can provide the location and services that will make my convention a success?
For one, it would have been very helpful to know the type of convention...for dentists or Star Wars fans? How many people you expect to attend? Is it designed for a local, regional, national or international market? What time of year do you want to hold it?
If you're looking for small, let's say 500-2,000 persons, then there are many of the downtown hotels that can handle a crowd that size. Most hotels will base their price on how many rooms you can guarantee they will rent. The Hilton, the Westin Peachtree Plaza and the Marriott downtown are just a few that can all handle this many persons without a problem. Some might be in love with the dentists, but not so much for the Star Wars crowd. But, each of those chains have other locations around the Perimeter that can provide an excellent location for groups of this size.
If you're expecting say, 25,000 persons or more, then you need to consider the World Congress Center or the Galleria Center (in Marietta). Each has a number of hotels either attached or close-by that people can walk to/from, as well as restaurants, etc., close-by to support that many persons. I have taken part in Home Shows at both of those locations, produced by Semco Productions, each show was excellent...for those taking part in it, and those attending.
Time of year can make a big difference. Check with both the Atlanta and Cobb Visitors' & Convention Bureaus for calendars of presently planned events...this also means major sports events as well. You don't want to plan your event the same weekend as another large convention...your prices will go up. Also, don't try to go up against something like the SEC Football Championship Game...you just might be the only person attending your own convention that day.
One place that I would recommend not to use, is the center down by the airport. For one, it's too far from people even using MARTA to get to it (and you have to keep transportation in mind); no connecting hotels or support restaurants, etc; and they charge a fortune to park as well. It's a nice facility, but with it's poor location & overall support, not user friendly.

Can you recommend one of the top dentist who specializes in dentures in Atlanta, Georgia?
Q. I'm trying to find a great dentist for my dad to get him a new denture, but not sure which dentist I can go to. Thank you.
A. My dentist is one of the best in the country, and he recieved one of his degrees from Georgia, but he now practices in Birmingham, Al. Trust me, HE is one of the best! I'm sure if the drive is too far, you could call him for a recommendation. He is well traveled and well known.

What is the average cost to go to the dentist for a clean-up and x-rays?
Q. I don't have insurance, and I really have no idea as what to expect of the cost. I don't want to pay more than I have to. I live in Lawrenceville, GA. Really close to downtown Atlanta.
Thank you!
Thank you!
A. I live in Dalton which is a couple of hrs away. We do things a little different in our office. The first visit is an hr with the dr, exam, exrays, oral cancer screening, and head and neck exam. That is around 150. The cleaning is about 80 more. If you are an established pt. then the cost for cleaning exam and films is 160 with out films its 121
What is the pay for a Monitor tech/unit secretary in the hospital in Atlanta Georgia?
Q. I plan to move to Atlanta Georgia from Los angeles Califronia next year and was wondering what was the job pay for a Monitor tech/unit secretary in Atlanta at any major hosptals in the Atlanta metro area . I know that I will have to take a pay cut , but I need to know how much of a pay cut. sense I will be purchasing a home out there before I Move out there. I need to know what my budget will be.
A. Shockingly LOW! even with evening and night differential pay which you will be working as new employee. Full time employees begin to accumulate benefits starting day 91 past an initial review of first three months work performance.
Be prepared to be paid HALF , yes half, of your current hourly rate.
You, RNs in CA are best paid in nation! Sure you want to move?
Good rule of thumb is mandatory minimum wage, add 20%-28%.
Are you aware Georgia is now a RED state? If you seek moderate to liberal friends/diversity, move
to NE Atlanta/Decatur, Dekalb county.
Piedmont-Promina Hospital System in Metro-Atlanta has reputation for best pay, bonus based on performance, low turnover rate, high standards for employees.
If you prefer 9-5 Mon-Fri, your people skills may give you opportunities in physicians/dentists offices. They routinely pay a little less but are more employee friendly, less stress, no working National Holidays. If interested, chose a large office with an office manager in place (not physicians spouse), better benes & pay with sucessful, busy group practice.
The trade-off in GA is you will be able to own a home, pay property tax, and afford both.
Good Luck to you in your move and with a new employer.
PS Try renting for 6-12 months before home purchase. You will have many adjustments to make. With longest commute time in nation, you want to LOVE your new employer and neighborhood before buying.Trying to sell a home in this market is tough, up to 18 months even if house in perfect condition in a good school area/neighborhood.
Atlanta, Savannah are cool cities to live and work in medical field and in general quality life-style!
