How much do dental assistants make?

Q. I live in West Virginia but I'm not against moving to make more money. So, I am curious about how much they can make in the surrounding states such as Ohio, Kentucky, Virginia and North Carolina?

A. I may have answered this same question before, but I'll do it again.
In West Va. (where I live and work), dental assistants can expect to start out at $7.00/hr. w/ no training or experience. That said, w/ experience, they start from $9.00/hr. up. Many assistants in my area make $12 - $13 hr. w/ a few years at the same office. Many assistants in Charleston make upwards of $15/hr. Still, it all varies.
I don't know about Ohio, Kentucky or Virginia, but I know about North Carolina. You have to be a Certified Dental Assistant in NC, but you don't have to be certified (yet) in WV. In NC, they have DA1's and DA2's. Many offices will only hire DA2's. With experience, they start at at least $17.00/hr and go up considerable. Average DA2 w/ several years at the same company makes around $24/hr in Charlotte.
I hope this helps. Dental assisting is a great field. The hours are wonderful and if you find the right office for you, it's just like having a 2nd family. The dentist I worked for was wonderful, truly wonderful. However, there are some very mean ones out there, too. Good luck to you!

Can someone in the Charlotte area recommend a good tmj specialist?
Q.

A. I cannot recommend a good TMD specialist...but I do commend you for your concern. This is one of the most abused areas in dentistry and a lot of folks are scammed by dentist looking to make a fast buck. Be very careful and if the dentist seems to know 'all' the answers...beware! Nobody knows all the answers with TMD, it is comparable to lower back pain and MD's. Good Luck

Isn't there a free dental clinic in Charlotte NC for people who don't have dental insurance?
Q. My roommate's mouth is all swollen from a toothache, but he has no insurance.

A. Is there a dental school around you?? Nothing is free...although a l ot of dentists will let you make payments

What can I expect with porcelain veneers?
Q. I'm considereing getting porcelain veneers & I'm wondering:

- About how much they will cost

- How long they will last

- Is the procedure painful

- Where can I find a good costemic dentist (I live in Charlotte, NC)

A. veneers can cost $1,000 + per tooth depending on who does them, and the brand they use.
the procedure is not painful, although may cause some sensitivity, because the dentist will grind into your teeth to attached the crown. keep in mind that veneers are something that you will have to maintain for a lifetime, because once they have been placed you will no longer be able to use your natural teeth.
they are usually replaced every 10-15 years due to staining, cracking, damage, etc.
research cosmetic dentists in your area.
go in for an initial appointment and the treatment coordinator will give you a treatment plan with estimated costs.
keep in mind that insurance does not usually cover any costs pertaining to veneers.

How does one become a guinea pig for dental research.?

Q. I live in Charlotte, NC and would like to become a model for cosmetic denistry, in particular the "teeth in an hour" technique. I am sure there are dentist who are considering using this method and need someone to practice on. I would be willing to travel. I have seen the surgery on nobel biocare web page. The surgery costs 25,000.00!! I would never be able to afford that amount as I am on disability. I would like to return to work but am afraid my present smile would impede an already nerve racking process. Please help if you can.

A. Contact your local dental college. I did and it worked out great. I saved about 33% of what a "regular" dentist would charge.
