Q. I wonder if the dentist is milking my insurance. The cavities are very small and they are going to fall out anyway. Does anyone have a advice. I wonder if I could just wait til they bother her or fall out. I hate to put her through the procedure of putting her to sleep especially if the dentist might be milking my insurance.
A. The main reason that stainless steel crowns are placed on baby teeth (usually the back molars which last until age 11) is that the decay would be so big that not much tooth would be left to protect the resulting large silver fillings. Also if the child has a high decay rate, there would be a lot less chance of any recurrent decay on the crowns then you would have around the silver fillings. My guess is that the dentist thinks that for her age she has way to many cavities and over the next several years these teeth will re decay and keep having to be repaired.
Does a dentist have to numb your gum to place a permanent crown?
Q. I had treatment at the dentist on Monday gone, including the preperation of a tooth for a crown. I have to go back on Wednesday next to have the permanent crown cemented on for good. Will the dentist numb my gum before placing the permanent crown or will he just pull off the temporary crown and cement it on? I have a really bad fear of dentists and had to have all my work done Monday last via sedation. Thank you so much if anyone knows.
A. Just a heads up,you may not want them to give you the drug called Versed
( Midazolam )
In fact, many people who use Versed for " IV Sedation,Conscious Sedation" during a procedure are awake for the entire procedure but remember nothing, often believing they were "out" the whole time.
Versed (Midazolam) is an amnestic. It is commonly administered in combination with anesthesia before and during surgery. It is also commonly used for minor procedures like colonoscopies dental procedures like extractions, conscience sedation, twilight sleep, so that patients won't remember pain and discomfort.HOWEVER THAT DOES NOT MEAN THAT THOSE SENSATIONS WILL NOT BE EXPERIENCED!!!!Forgetting does no mean it did not happen!! Amnesia does NOT take place for some patients.
IT'S NOT MY INTENTION FOR YOU TO NOT GET THE PROCEDURE DONE, JUST INFORMING YOU THAT YOU MAY WANT IT DONE WITH ANOTHER DRUG!!!!!
Here is a note from someone that did use versed
I know I was sedated, I don't remember anything.. but I know I was screaming, everyone could hear me.. My thing is how was I screaming if I'm knocked out.

How do I stop grinding my teeth without sleeping with a mouth guard?
Q. I am ruining my teeth because I grind them in my sleep. I tried using my night guard and I wake up with my teeth hurting and feeling as though they've shifted. I need help!
A. I'd like to know what five minute procedure a dentist can do to stop a Bruxer? There are two type of Bruxers(grinders)
1. The type cuased by your teeth not touching the right way.
for example, a high spot on a new filling, or loss of contact due to decay, the bruxing is caused by your brain trying to re-establish an euquilibrium to your overall dental contacts(called occlusion)
2. CNS bruxers (Central Nervous System) the type of bruxing that comes from the brain can not be cured in five minutes. To solve this you treat the patient by using night guards. Try to stop the brain from activating the clenching by working out, yoga, therapy, and yes even drugs some times.
If you feel you are bruxing at night, are a CNS bruxer, and really don't want to wear a night guard then there little we can do to prevent the damage. Try relieving stress in some way.
Why is you don't want to wear a night guard?.
Perhaps you have an improperly made one?
Night guards need to be balanced out at time of delivery.
If all else fails.
Get a human night guard to stand by your bed and poke you
everytime you start to grind.

How to sleep well and be able to wake up on time?
Q. I can never fall asleep. The only way I can get into bed and fall asleep within an hour is if I am taking sleep aids, which I can't take every night. Every night I just lay there and think. I have tried tea, milk, relaxing, running before I go to bed, everything. And when I can't sleep I dont get enough sleep and can't wake up on time for school. How can I fall asleep in a reasonable amount of time and be able to wake up on time.
A. Avoid caffeine and other stimulants after mid day. Try to isolate yourself from background light while sleeping. Even light from a T.V. or an alarm clock can keep you from getting to sleep and staying that way. Sometimes background white noise helps lull you to sleep, such as a fan or CD playing "spa music" on low volume.
It's a very real possibility that you have un-diagnosed sleep apnea. Classified as a disorder, sleep apnea affects over 70 million Americans today, while 2-4% of Americans are estimated to have undiagnosed sleep apnea.
The only way to know for sure, whether or not you have sleep apnea, is to be examined, screened, and possibly tested for it. Seek out the opinion of your physician. Another option is to talk to a dentist trained in the treatment of sleep apnea. Many of them offer take home sleep tests.
