Q. Today my dentist numbed me up and started drilling into the bone of the roof of my mouth. They screwed in a screw thing. This will be the anchor for my new appliance (woo-hoo). What is this appliance called and what will it be like.
A. This may be something called a palatal expander. If your teeth are not in ideal occlusion, this is used to widen the roof of your mouth. If you'd like to compare pictures of your teeth with what I'm talking about, try to google "palatal expander" or "crossbite" and see if that resembles what you have in your mouth.

A. If you never had it done before more than likely it will hurt. However, you will be glad you did it in the end. I smoked for years and my teeth was dark yellow. After i clean my teeth by a dentist i can smile again when i take a picture
They do a water jet type cleaning and it makes my gums bleed like crazy. It just means your gums are crap and you need to take better care of them. Get them in shape and floss more!

A. I would only bring something if it's a family member or good friend. Doctors and Dentists need plants in their offices. Subscriptions to magazines for the waiting room are good gifts or cute dental related pictures for the wall.
