What are my options for correcting a gap in my teeth?

Q. I have a bit of an overbite and a gap between my front teeth. It drives me nuts and when I was a kid the dentists recommended all kinds of insane orthodontic work.

I honestly dont care about the rest of my mouth. I'd just like it if my top front teeth looked good.

Would it be possible to have my front two or possibly four teeth pulled, and have a bridge or something put in with teeth that were straight??? How much does something like that cost?

A. A good friend of mine had *very* crooked teeth, and he got those invisalign braces and had excellent results. I think that invisalign is a good option for an adult who does not want to advertise the fact that they have braces. They are clear, plastic, invisible braces that are worn over your teeth. The process takes about two years or so, but results can be seen much sooner (like 9 months to a year).

I had a bit of an overbite as a teen and I had to wear metal braces with springs ETC. I have had some problems with my teeth as a result of having metal braces. Some of these problems include sensitivity, cavities near gumline, and receding gums. Because of this I would not recommend metal braces if/when there are other options.

Regarding veneers, I personally don't like the idea of someone sanding down my teeth and putting something "fake" on them that will only last ten years. Who knows where you will be in ten years and if you will be able to fix it? I'd rather have my real teeth if and whenever possible. I already have a couple of crowns (from cavities I got when I had braces) and would never willingly pay to have healthy teeth ground down into little stumps. Yikes!! ((Just my 2 cents, I know people might not agree with me!!))

In what age should parents take their kids to a Pediatric Dentist?
Q. In what age should parents take their kids to a Pediatric Dentist? I have 3 and 2 years-old.
My kids seem to have good teeth.
My friend told me that they do not really do much when kids are little other than tell you that they need to brush their teeth.
My kids are not in our Insurance plan. Should we add them now or wait till they become certain age?
How much is one pediatric dentist visit (just talk to the dentist)?
How much is one pediatric dentist visit (just talk to the dentist)? <= without insurance

A. My pediatrician told us that by four, they should absolutely go to the dentist. Before 3 - 4 years, they're too little to sit in the chair for the exam so it's not really worth it.

As long as you're brushing their teeth they should be fine. You may want to add the 3 year old, though...

How much do you hate taking your kids to the dentist?
Q. Not looking forward to this afternoon!

What do you say to make them not be scared when they've had a very bad experience with a different dentist?

A. what my mom use to say to me when i was just a little guy was

"what I will do to you if you dont behave and resist at the dentist will be 100X worse"

When should kids start going to the dentist?
Q. When did your kids start going to the dentist? My son is on Medicaid in Missouri and his primary care physician recommended he begin going to the dentist. I have heard that starting a child at one year of age is a good idea. However, when I called my Medicaid provider for my son, they informed me that he should not go until he is three years old.

What do you think?

A. Around three is a good time. However, you are really your kids first dentist. Make sure you show them the proper way to brush their teeth. Make a game out of it. Get them in the habit of looking forward to brushing early. It will pay off in the future.
