where can i get some information on sedation dentist prices?

Q. i need to see a sedation dentist, but i have no insurance. I know that the procedures will be expensive, but i want some idea of how much i will be paying. I know every dentist is different, but there has to be a ball park price for their services. Any suggestions on where i can find this kind of info on the net?

A. The wonderful thing about dentistry is that we get to set our own fees at whatever level we feel is appropriate. There is a very wide variation due to geography.
When I practiced in VA a crown cost $750, now, 2 years later in MA I charge $1250.
The best way to get the cost is to go have an exam and treatment plan, roughly $150 and get an estimate.

Insurance coverage of full sedation for dental work on autistic child?
Q. My 11 year old has autism and is totally non compliant with the dentist beyond a basic cleaning. He has some issues that need to addressed and the only way that will happen is in a pediatric OR under full sedation. Our dentist is wonderful, but we know our insurance company will turn down the full sedation (they only cover it if children under the age of 5). We are planning to appeal as there is no other way to do the needed work. I had been told at one time that since our child has diagnosed special needs that would make working on him in a tradtional way impossible, the insurance company must cover the costs. If anyone has any idea on where to look or a link to a site that discusses this topic, I would appreciate it. We live in MD, in case it is a state by state issue, Thanks so much!

A. My jumpy grandson had to be sedated for dental work and they wanted the money up front and then Metlife or Metrolpolitan reimbursed us within a month. It went thru my job's insurance. Call them up!

Can I take Valium while getting teeth removed instead of expensive sedation?
Q. I am getting 2 wisdom teeth removed. Mild sedation costs $350. Dentist says they use fentynal. Insurance won't cover it. I have 30mg of Valium. Can I take the valium instead to take the edge off? If so how many mg? I am 5'3 123lb female.

A. You probably can take Valium, ask your doctor or dentist how much. They can tell you the correct dose. Also, make sure you get someone to drive you to your app't & stay with you for a while if you take valium.

My boyfriend is getting an IV sedation at the dentist tomorrow. What should I do after his appointment?
Q. I'm driving him there and back. The dentist just said I need to "supervise" him, but didn't elaborate. Some people said I needed to stay with him while he sleeps it off after the appointment, some people have said I can leave him alone (but still be in the same house) while he sleeps it off, and some people have said I can just leave him as soon as we get back home. What should I do?

A. I had IV sedation for a colonoscopy recently. My husband drove me home and I slept from about noon to 4pm. It was a very deep sleep, I woke up, ate dinner and was fine. You could probalby put him to bed and go do something and check on him in a couple of hours.
