Dental Discount Plans?
Q. I don't have dental coverage and I need a root canal. I saw a discount card (Humana dental discount: Texas dental plan) which is effective within 2 business days, cost $72 per year and has a one time $35 activation fee.
A root canal would be $279 with this card. Does this seem to be a real scenario or is this a scam?? I found this information from dentists.com and even called a customer rep. and asked about it, but I'm just not sure.

A. If you can't afford dental care, a discount plan could be a good alternative. There are plenty, so shop around. Or negotiate with your dentist.
If you're willing to let a student work on you (under a teacher's supervision) you can get free or low cost dental care at the clinic of a dental school.

Q. Hello,
I chipped my left front tooth a while back. I am considering getting it fixed or "capped", I think is the term. Anyway, how much would it cost for this procedure? Below is a picture of a tooth SIMILAR to what mine looks like:

Please see the photo, and maybe you can give me an estimate of what it would cost. I know it's not covered by my insurance, since it's "cosmetic" dentistry.

(BTW, mine is just a BIT more chipped than the one in the picture. Of course I can live with this chipped tooth, but I would rather have it fixed.)
It is the RIGHT tooth in that picture that is similar to mine. Just in case you thought it was the left, which clearly is fine. Again, mine is a bit more chipped.

A. My front tooth was chipped, and my dentist added some filler material, then buffed it down. You can't even tell, it's exactly the color of my tooth. He only charged me $30, and it took him about 5 minutes.
