jobs for teens that are 14 years old.?

Q. im 14 and im looking for a job for after school and the weekends. what are some places that hire 14 year olds. if it helps i live in Beaverton, OR please help me =] thanks!

A. Normally, you will need permits as a minor to work in commercial businesses.

For young teenagers, it's not a bad idea to start out small. Since you are a girl, perhaps you can try babysitting for a neighbor. That's a common job, and you should get a decent experience out of it.

You can also ask family friends if you can help them out in their work place - perhaps a dentist or doctor's office. It should give you a more professional level of work, even if you are just xeroxing papers or filing them.

Go to your school counselor and ask for advise. They can usually give good recommendations on what you can do - perhaps working at school.

Where to live in Portland, OR?
Q. I plan to move to Portland, OR from the east coast and I'm wondering what's the best place to live in the city. I am 25, single, female, entry-level income.
I do have a job. I'd be transferring there for my company. Our office is downtown by the river.

A. Near 21st & West Burnside. I lived in that area for over 20 years. You don't need a car, you can walk wherever you need to go. Although it's downtown you can walk to five different grocery stores (Fred Meyer, Zupans, Trader Joe's, and two different Safeways.) Doctors, dentists, movie theaters, clothing stores, bars, salons, everything is an easy walk.

The nearest light rail station is at Jeld Wen Field about five blocks from 21st & Burnside; the light rail will take you to the airport, Gresham, Beaverton, Clackamas for $2.50. Ideally you either want to live within walking distance of where you work, or at least be able to get to work on the light rail. Not having to own a car saves you a ton of money.
