How do you find a good dentist?

Q. Are there published or online reviews about finding good dentists?

A. http://www.rateadentist.com/

This should be a good start for you! ; )

How to mend my dental bridge?
Q. The tooth facing has come off my dental bridge. My dentist says he cannot fix it without paying hundreds of dollars for a new bridge.. Anyone got ideas? All I want is a new tooth facing on the existing metal framework.

A. I highly recommend the you check out YourCity.MD for this problem. You can browse the highest rated orthodontists in your area according to patient ratings. The Doctor Now feature can book you an appointment immediately if necessary.

Should I become an air traffic controller in the Navy?
Q. I decided that it might be a good idea to join the Navy and become an air traffic controller. They make good money and I think the job description sounds pretty cool. Also, the Navy takes care of all schooling and also pays for housing, food and gives full benefits. However, I have heard some pretty bad things about the job. I've heard it was boring, very stressfull, and that this profession has the highest suicide rate next to dentists. I just wanted an opinion possibly from someone that actually is an air traffic controller. Can you please give me a little more insight before I decide to make this my career? Thank you.
I need a 210 on the ASVAB to become an air traffic controller. I took the practice test and got a 280. Eventhough that just was a practice test, if I study, getting the right score wouldn't be an issue.
Do air traffic controllers work by themselves? or are there other people they can talk to working with them?

A. As a former veteran, if you want money for school, research student loans but do not join the Navy. The needs of the Navy come first, before everything. When I was aboard ship, AC's as they are called work 12 hour shifts and were always bored. The flight crew on ships work harder and longer than any other members of a ship's crew. If you are set on going to the Navy take a look at these ratings(jobs) IS (intelligence Specialist) or IT (same as in the real world, computers). With either of these you can get out and make a great living without having a college education. Take some time and review all of the rates before you make a decision. The saying in the Navy goes "Pick your Rate, Pick your Fate". Your rate (job) can affect your entire enlistment and the rest of your life...choose wisely grasshopper.

What does the National Electronic Attachment do?
Q. My career services lady just sent my resume to them and i'm trying to find out more about the company before an interview and i was just wanting to know more about them and what they sell or do? If anyone can help that would be the best and get ratings Thanks and have a good weekend!

A. NEA is an electronic attachment clearinghouse, which allows dentists to transmit attachments, via the Internet, for payors to view in support of electronic claims. Attachments include x-rays, charting, intraoral pictures, Op reports, EOBs, and any other supporting documentation required by a payor to adjudicate a dental claim.

It looks like they send documentation to insurance companies so they can approve the insurance claim.

What motivates people to become dentists?

Q. Besides money, I don't understand what interests people in becoming dentists (DDS/DMD) or podiatrists (DPM). These seem like strange fields to truly be passionate about. Can anybody explain?

A. I've wondered that myself. As an MD student, I really do find the various diseases of the body interesting (as do most people if the ratings of House are any indication). That said, I can't see myself getting psyched to learn about cavities and gingivitis. I assume they are mostly after the money, after all, your average dentist these days makes more than your average doctor. Even so, I would never trade my med school education for a dental school one.

How bad does it hurt getting back teeth pulled?
Q. I have a bad back tooth and im thinking it needs to be pulled. I am scared to death of the dentist. Im not afraid of needles...just the pain in my mouth, im so scared! Please be honest. Thanks guys.

A. I've had 2 molar extractions in the past 3 months, one last week.

They do not 'pull' the tooth. First they numb your gums with lots of gel. Then they give you a small needle in your gum area, but you really don't feel it and it helped me to keep my eyes shut. If you see the needle you'll just worry more, if you keep your eyes shut, you might not even know he's giving you one. Once your mouth is numb he'll start slowing wiggling the tooth. Dentist's wont 'yank' your tooth out, it's slowly wiggled until the tooth is loose enough to pull without hurting you. You don't feel pain really, you'll just feel a lot of pressure, but that isn't painful.

If you're uncomfortable with dentists visit this website and search for dentists with great ratings and reviews.

-ratemds.com
-click on 'find doctors' at the top right
-select your country and state/province
-type in your city/town
-scroll down to the type of 'dr.' you're looking for.

Good Luck :)

How can I get dental reviews on dentist in my area?
Q. I don't want dr. oogle, because they only give you the 5 star ratings and the 1 stars you have to pay for it. I had a horrible experience with my dentist in rockford michigan and I need to get reviews before I see another one.

A. ratemds.com

You can view other reviews and even rate your own without an account.

What kind of ratings would be good for me?
Q. I am really good as far as word knowledge and paragraph comprehension goes. On almost every practice test I've taken the most i've missed was 2. I'm decent at math, the most i've missed for that is 4. I'm really unsure about what I want to do. I know I want to join, but I'm not sure what jobs are for me.
I do want to go to the navy, and as far as what i'm interested in i like to read. I do plan on studying different languages, but other than that I really don't know what I like. I'm just not good with all the computers and mechanics and stuff. and I think after the navy I want to be a teacher or a dentist so I'm unsure. I have looked at dental technician as a rating, but i want to make sure its right for me.

A. You described how you are doing on the tests, but you haven't said what you LIKE to do. The ASVAB doesn't tell you what you can do, it tells you what you can't do. If you got a perfect score on the ASVAB all it would mean is that you can do anything. YOU still have to decide what YOU want to do.

What are your interests?
Athletics? Working on cars? Working with animals? Computers? Administration? Foreign languages?

EDIT:

You like to read, but what? Romances, mysteries, news, technical manuals, the bible...

You say you don't like mechanics and computers, but you might like to be a dentist. Medicine (of any kind) is pretty technical. Maybe dental technician would be perfect for you so that you could see what being a dentist is all about.

You also say you have a desire to learn a foreign language. If you have good verbal skills the Navy will teach you a language and put you to work using it. A lot of times it is more intelligence oriented, but you get to learn and use the language. (see link) The downside is that they don't necessarily let you pick which language you want. It is a function of what languages do they need, and what is your potential for learning. For example, Spanish is considered very easy to learn whereas Arabic is very difficult. If you scored really high and wanted to learn Spanish they might make you do Arabic instead. As you can imagine there is a lot of need for Arabic translators right now...

Doctor Sohail Venus Best Dentist in Victoria British Columbia?
Q. Looking around and was reading about the best Dentists in the British Columbia Region and wanted to see if Dr. Sohail Venus is the best dentist in Victoria, British Columbia.

A. I think that someone claiming to be the "best dentist" in Victoria is a rather arrogant statement, and if you are going by ratings from other people, well ratings can be forged or are often subjective. Besides, if this Dr. Venus was the best, odds are good that he/she charges a lot and already has all the patients they can handle.

The fact is that most dentists in Canada are excellent. Some have a better "chair-side" manner than others, but overall it is rare that you will find one that would be considered bad. What you need to do is find a dentist that you are comfortable with, who has reasonable rates.

And if you are asking because you received unsolicited emails from this doctor, I'd suggest you doublecheck on that. It is likely a spam message that was not even from this doctor.
