How do I go about getting a dentist appointment ?

Q. I'm 16. I have insurance with UnitedHealthCare. Never been to a dentist and I really want to get my teeth checked out. What should I do ? Besides ask my mom because she's too lazy & has never been to a dentist either.

A. First find out if your insurance plan include dental coverage. Most insurance plans don't have dental coverage

If the answer is yes, you can either go on your insurance company's website to find a dentist that take your insurance in the area or call your local dentist and ask them one by one

If the answer is no, you can choose anyone you like. Give them a call and make an appointment

How many years does it take total to become a general dentist?
Q. What if you become a dentist and then want to specialize as an oral surgeon? How long would it take for that? What are the pre requisites that I'd have to take in college? Would I be able to acquire a degree for dental hygiene while in the process of attaining a degree to become a dentist? (That way, I could be a dental hygienist while still going to college, hope that makes sense.)

A. it takes 8 years to become a general dentist in USA,
4 years pre-dental (bachelor degree in chemistry or biology or anything as long as you take certain courses that will prepare you for dental school, a college counsel can help out in picking out proper courses, & usually dental schools have them posted on their websites).you'll have to take an exam called DAT; dental admission exam, that will help dental schools to pick proper candidates.
another 4 years in dental school, after wards you take licenses exams & broads, then you are certified to work as general dentist.
to be an oral surgeon takes additional 4-6 years AFTER dental school, depending if you want to get an M.D as well (6 years program).
being a hygienists is A lot of work on itself, there are 2 programs, 2 years & 4 years, in addition to board & license exam. i don't really know if you can pull it off during dental school, dental school is hard itself !

What courses would you take in college to become a dentist?
Q. Hellllllllla questions for ya:
1. What courses should you take in college in order to get into dental school/to become a dentist?
2. How many years after high school does it take to become a dentist?
3. What is the average starting salary of a dentist?

A. 1. You would take the required pre-dental classes:

2-4 semesters of biology (general, plant, animal, and genetics)
4 semesters of chemistry with labs (including organic chemistry)
1 semester of physics (optional)
1 semester of calculus

2. After high school you spend four years in college and then four years in dental school.

3. Average starting salary is greatly dependent upon your location, credentials, affiliation, and luck. Expect about $50,000 your first few years, possibly less. Dentists don't command extraordinary salaries and usually average about $135,000 (based on an average from a lot of different websites).
